The Eaters : Hansel and Caide

I've been writing a story for creative writing that I'm pretty much falling in love with. I guess you could call it a fantasy, since it takes place on an alternate Earth. (There's no magic or anything though.)

These two are Eaters (a "punishment" faction of the judicial government). Eaters mete out punishments that judges hand down.
Eaters have a very organized group system. Usually, there are only two in a pair: one Red Eater and one Blue Eater. The only way to tell them apart are the colour of their badges and their masks. It is an unspoken rule in the Eater groups that those who do not belong to the Eaters cannot see members' faces if they are not immediate family. The only time that an Eater's face is seen by members of the public are at Eatings.

Red Eater (AKA the Executor):
Executors are the bloody half of the Eater pair. They serve as executioners at the Sunday executions.

Blue Eater (AKA the Reconciliator):
Reconciliators are the lawyer/therapist-ish half of the Eater pair. They serve as console to the those sentenced to death.

Types of Crimes and Accorded Punishments:
Type III: _{Theft, Misdemeanors, etcetera : These crimes result in jail time that corresponds to the severity of the crime. No Eater involvement.}

Type II:_{Kidnappings, Spousal/Child Abuse, etcetera : These crimes result in jail time that corresponds to the severity of the crime and are also whipped/beaten. Eater involvement.}

Type I: _{Murder, Treason, etcetera : These crimes result in execution. Those that plead "guilty" to the crimes they undoubtedly did are beheaded; those that plead "not guilty" but are proven "guilty" are sentenced to an Eating.}


The Eating:
Criminals that plead "not guilty" but are proven of committing Type I offenses are sentenced to an Eating. Red Eaters are rotated to fulfill as the executioners. An Eating consists of the Red Eater eating the person to death in front of the public.
Those sentenced to an Eating can recant their "not guilty" by confessing to the Blue Eater. The Blue Eater then can choose whether or not the Eating should go on or not.

Personalities: Hansel and Caide are an unusual pair. Hansel, reassigned from a previous partnership, is selfishly abusive, extremely aggressive, and severely temperamental. Caide, on the other hand, is quiet, thoughtful, and caring. The partnership is definitely not without its problems.


Relations: Hansel adores Caide as a permanent male stand-in for the wife position, while Caide returns the feelings half-heartedly. Needless to say, Hansel has the most energy in their weird intimacy while Caide just lets anything happen.
